According to Melbourne police a 37-year-old woman was arrested on a child-neglect charge Friday afternoon after a tow truck driver told police the mother offered to sell her child in exchange for gas money.

Pappalardo faces a charge of child neglect in connection with the report. Police are continuing their investigation.

Sgt. Michael Casey of Melbourne police said officers learned of a 9-1-1 call about 3 p.m. from a tow truck driver who said a woman had tried to sell him her 6-year-old boy in exchange for gas money at a gas station near U.S. 1 and Lake Washington Road.

The driver refused, Melbourne police said, and then followed the mother who was in a white sedan with her child and another woman as he called police.

“He rolled up his window and followed her. They drove all across north Melbourne,” Casey said.

The white sedan was pulled over in Suntree by police. Pappalardo was questioned and arrested. Her 6-year-old boy sat on the trunk of the car and cried as his mother was led away.

incident on Peck Road in Salisbury, police said Thursday evening. Police said Edick poured gas on the clothing of a 19-year-old man, who suffered second-degree burns to his abdomen and arms.

A Swedish man’s attempt to impress his girlfriend on Friday night backfired, putting him in the hospital with serious burn injuries and facing allegations of endangering the public.

The woman told police in Västervik in south eastern Sweden that her boyfriend poured gasoline over his arm and set the fuel on fire.

“It obviously didn’t go well. He burned his arm and other parts of his body and was in a state of shock,” said Kalmar police spokesperson Reine Johansson to the TT news agency.

“Don’t ask me what the point of the trick was supposed to be.”

The 33-year-old man was taken via ambulance to the hospital in Västervik.

According to police he will likely need specialized care at the burn clinic of Linköping University Hospital.

Following the failed stunt, the man is also under suspicion for negligence which endangers the public.

A woman is in critical condition this afternoon after lighting herself on fire at a West Nashville church for the second time in two months, Nashville police and fire officials said.

Members of Grace Evangelical Church, 3701 Park Avenue, found the woman on fire in the church parking lot around 1 p.m., Capt. Rich Foley said. Church members put her out with towels.

The woman had apparently poured gasoline from a milk jug on herself and set herself on fire, said Nashville Fire Department spokesman Tim Lankford.

The same woman lit herself on fire during a church service on Nov. 16, suffering burns on her chest. The woman is believed to be in her mid-30s and from Ethiopia; the church has a large Ethiopian population, Foley said.
