A man who thought there was an intruder in his house shot and killed his fiancee the day before they were to be married, police said Friday.

Good thing he bought a gun to protect his loved ones.

“Right now everything points to a tragic accident,” Police Chief Kevin Brunelle told The Associated Press, adding investigators were awaiting forensic results.

John Tabutt, 62, told investigators he got his gun when he thought he heard an intruder, then fired at a figure in the hallway, according to Brunelle. It was Tabutt’s live-in fiancee, 62-year-old Nancy Dinsmore, who family members say he was going to marry Saturday. Tabutt told authorities he thought she was next to him in bed the whole time.

A message left for a phone number listed for the house was not returned.

Brunelle said no charges have been filed against Tabutt, adding the information he provided has been verified and he appeared “very distraught.”

Tabutt was “very concerned about her well-being,” standing by while she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Brunelle added.

The couple planned to wed in a small ceremony Saturday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winter Springs, Dinsmore’s son-in-law Scott Sposato, of Vero Beach, told the Orlando Sentinel.

“They loved each other,” he said. “It was quite apparent.”

Tabutt called 911 shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday, moaning and sobbing, the newspaper reported.

“I thought I had an intruder in the house,” he told the emergency dispatcher. “Honest to God, she looks dead.”

He then thought he heard her take a breath.

“Hang in there, Honey. Hang in there,” he said.

A Palestine man was behind bars Sunday night after police say he lead DPS troopers in Leon County on a wild chase while he was stark naked.

According to DPS, the chase started in on Highway 79 Leon County just north of Franklin where 31-year-old Ulbado Olvera was driving a stolen car.

The chase continued through Robertson County and finally into Brazos County where Olvera allegedly drove into a ditch near the University Drive exit on Highway 6.

DPS says Olvera, who was naked the entire time, got out of the car and ran onto the highway where he was eventually arrested.

Two thugs who attacked what they thought were a pair of transvestites picked on the wrong men – when their intended victims turned out to be cage fighters on a night out in fancy dress.

Dean Gardener, 19, and Jason Fender, 22, singled out the two men walking along a street in wigs, short skirts and high heels.

Bare-chested Gardener was caught on CCTV confronting one of the men in a pink wig, black skirt and boob tube – then seen swinging a punch, a court heard.

But the other cage fighter, wearing a sparkling black dress and matching long wig, sprang to his friend’s help, delivering two lightning-quick punches to the two stunned yobs.

The cage fighters were then seen teetering away in their high heels, stopping only to pick up a clutch bag they dropped during the melee.

Gardener and Fender were left dazed and seen staggering to their feet after their failed attack.

Looks like the Bloom County librarian works for the video store these days. Lets thank the detective for one hell of a bust fellas.

Arrested for bad choice in movies?

According to a charge filed in September 1998, Elisabeth M. Weiss of Iowa City rented three videotapes — “U-Turn,” “Devil’s Advocate” and “Bio Hunter” — on May 23, 1998. The woman rented the tapes from the now defunct Hagen’s Video, police said. According to police, the videotapes were due the next day, but Weiss never returned them.

As of Sept. 3, 1998, the videotapes were not returned and an Iowa City Police detective contacted Weiss and asked her to return them. Weiss told the detective she would take back the videotapes but never did so.

According to the criminal complaint, the total value of the movies and late fees is $231.97.

Iowa City Police Sgt. Troy Kelsay was unaware of what led to Weiss’s arrest on the 11-year-old warrant. Kelsay said Weiss was picked up by authorities outside the area.

Weiss was charged with fourth-degree theft. She was taken to the Johnson County Jail, posted a cash bond and was released an hour later.

Sarasota, Florida – Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies say 47-year-old Gary Mitchell planted several bushes along the front sidewalk of the home he’s renting, located at 5293 Old Ashwood Drive, in Sarasota. The bushes run along the sidewalk and along portions of the county right of way, just east of his property line, according to the sheriff’s office.

Monday, one of his neighbors, Teal Fowler, noticed that there were several razor blades sticking to the branches of his bushes. Fowler took pictures and talked to Mitchell about it. She called the sheriff’s office she says because she was afraid someone would get cut. “There’s children. There’s pets. There’s quite a few people who access the sidewalk.”

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit a Westmoreland man was arrested for possessing hallucinogenic mushrooms. According to Inv. Richard Dodge, arrested was Scott M. Colony age 27 of Furnace Street in Westmoreland.

The Sheriff’s road patrol received a call from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office in California regarding a suspicious package which was to be shipped to a Westmoreland address by way of UPS. The package was checked and it was found to contain mushrooms. The package was then secured by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and a call was placed to the Sheriff’s Office in Oneida County.

Patrol upon receiving the call from Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office contacted the on call investigator for Oneida County and an investigation was started. The package containing the mushrooms was shipped to Oneida County by UPS and a controlled delivery was made by UPS to the address on the package.

Once the delivery was made Sheriff’s investigators along with members of the Drug Task Force and Road Patrol armed with a search warrant hit the residence and the package containing over five pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms with a street value of approximately $20,000.00 was secured. Colony was also taken into custody at that time.

NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (WPIX) – The Suffolk County teenager who severely damaged his hand while attempting to construct a homemade bomb had a deep fascination with the Columbine High School massacre, officials said.

During a press conference Tuesday, Suffolk County authorities said 17-year-old Vincent Pizzonia had pictures on the back of his bedroom door depicting the 1999 tragedy in Colorado. It isn’t clear whether the images included victims of the ordeal or the two suspect s- Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. 12 people were killed in that attack and 21 others were injured.

Pizzonia told police he was going to detonate the explosive devices in his backyard, but considering the seriousness of what they found in his bedroom, officials say the investigation is ongoing.

According to police, Pizzonia accidentally set off one of his explosives and severely damaged one of his hands Monday evening.

Officers arrived at 29 Pell Avenue in North Babylon, Long Island just before 7:30 p.m. when the youth’s parents called 911 to report their son was injured.

Police say the teenager, a student, was in the process of creating an improvised explosive device in his basement at the time of the unexpected detonation.

The young man’s parents transported him to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip in unknown condition. Reports say the teen may have blasted one of his hands off.

A female pizza delivery worker got more than she bargained for on multiple occasions when she went to deliver food and was met at the door by a man wearing no pants.

You want whats in her box.

Portsmouth Police Lt. Rodney McQuate said the woman delivering the pizza notified police of the man’s actions after it took place four different times.

“She would go to the address and the guy comes to the door wearing no pants,” McQuate said.

The lieutenant said the man would be completely naked from the waist down.

McQuate said the pizza delivery woman called police in an effort to let them know what was going on, but didn’t wish to press charges.

WORCESTER, Mass. – A Massachusetts man who stole a hot dog from another man sitting under a tree in a park has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Worth 18 months in prison?

Antonio Judd pleaded guilty Monday in Worcester (WUS’-tur) Central District Court to charges including larceny from a person.

Police say Judd grabbed the hot dog in August after flashing what appeared to be a gun in Elm Park in Worcester, New England’s second-largest city.

Police reports say Judd began to devour the hot dog, spilling mustard all over his shirt. They say when he was arrested later he was carrying a pellet gun and a pocket knife.

According to Melbourne police a 37-year-old woman was arrested on a child-neglect charge Friday afternoon after a tow truck driver told police the mother offered to sell her child in exchange for gas money.

Pappalardo faces a charge of child neglect in connection with the report. Police are continuing their investigation.

Sgt. Michael Casey of Melbourne police said officers learned of a 9-1-1 call about 3 p.m. from a tow truck driver who said a woman had tried to sell him her 6-year-old boy in exchange for gas money at a gas station near U.S. 1 and Lake Washington Road.

The driver refused, Melbourne police said, and then followed the mother who was in a white sedan with her child and another woman as he called police.

“He rolled up his window and followed her. They drove all across north Melbourne,” Casey said.

The white sedan was pulled over in Suntree by police. Pappalardo was questioned and arrested. Her 6-year-old boy sat on the trunk of the car and cried as his mother was led away.
